He rented me a pack from Alabama Outdoors. He packed it as light as he could, just under 30 lbs. I was hesitant, but continued along with "the plan". We drove down to the Bankhead Friday afternoon for our adventure. I knew there was hiking involved, but I was fairly confident I would do fine since I workout a lot.
Ha.
When we arrive on Friday afternoon, we unload our packs and begin our hike. I knew it would be around an hour of hiking, but I pictured an "open" forest hike. However, it was nothing of the sort. We were trudging through thick forest. Crawling under trees, ducking under branches, walking through thick leaves and dirt, even using the machete to get through some parts of the woods. NOT my idea of fun. My shoulders started hurting, and as you could imagine, I started to complain. Hehe.
We were losing daylight, so we had to set up camp sooner than Andrew
planned. (Thank goodness!) This was also different than what I was used
to...we camped right in the middle of the woods. Trees everywhere.
Claustrophobia. I didn't like it. But I was glad to stop, so I didn't
say much. Also, we stopped at one of the flattest points of the hike
thus far, and it had a slight incline. I didn't think sleeping with your
head above your feet would be so uncomfortable. But it was. I had a
little blowup mattress plus my sleeping bag. My sleeping bag would not
stay still on the mattress, so I slid down the mattress the whole night.
I ended up curled up in a ball halfway down the mattress at the end of
the tent most of the night. Andrew claims that I slept, but I am not so
sure that I believe him. I, um, kind of snore, so yeah...I snored a
little bit. Good sign that I'm asleep! The funny thing about my snoring
is that Andrew never has the heart to wake me. That is really sweet and I
am glad he is that way, but if Andrew ever wakes me up because he is
making the slightest noise....well, I can't help it - I let him know. :)
The next morning we got up and cooked breakfast. We made pancakes and cooked some country ham. I never, ever eat ham...especially country ham. However, I was desperate and ate a few pieces. It was extremely salty, but actually tasted kind of good. After breakfast I was ready to pack it up and go. Andrew wanted to "relax" and read for a little bit. Ughhhhh. So I laid back down on my "slip and slide" sleep arrangement and took a nap. We ended up leaving the camp around 11 that morning.
We did the same grueling hike back to our truck. I was really impressed that my legs never got tired, but my shoulders were killing me. For two days it hurt to wear my seat belt. I was so sore! I have never been so excited to get back home. I told Drew that we would compromise on camping. My kind of camping is pulling up to a camp ground with your chairs, pillows, and LOTS of good food, unloading and setting up camp with the bath house a few hundred yards away. ;) That's the kind of camping we will be doing from now on. I also love to hike...just not "Les Stroud" or "Man, Woman, Wild" style. I pretty much could have my own reality show after this weekend, y'all.
Just a few Instagrams...
Audrey loves to ride on the back of her "car". She loves for us to push her around the house. Typical night in our house!
Here we are at lunch with my mom, Grandmommy, and Aunt Kitty. Audrey would NOT pose for the picture, so this is the best we could do. Silly!
We ate lunch at Cracker Barrel one day last week with Ash and Aniston. As you can see, the girls were very silly ...especially Little Bit with her feet in the air. I love our time with our besties. :)
The next day we went to Target together and bought the girls Icees. We are teaching them to love shopping at an early age!! They do good as long as they have a "treat". Audrey look so proud to have her Icee. Goofy.
Audrey loves her dog, Bella. She has gotten really, really attached to her. On this particular day, she preferred Bella to slide with her. Couldn't you just snuggle up with that sweet little face? Precious.
Audrey has really started talking on the phone more these days - and I can actually understand some of what she is saying! Her conversation:
"Hi! Ohhh! I want that. Yeah. Bye!!" She was saying that over and over again in this picture.
Click this link below to see the short youtube video of Audrey talking on the phone. Again, repeating the conversation.
Audrey talking on the phone
Audrey loves to put Caillou "to bed" when she takes a bath. As you can see below, she lays him down, covers him with a washcloth (blanket), and gives him a good night kiss. She is so proud of herself when she does this. I tell her she is a good little mommy!
We ate lunch after church last Sunday with Uncle Elliott and Uncle Nathan. They sure do love Audrey. :)
And Happy Birthday this past week to Granny Denton! She turned 86. We love you, Granny!
Next post to come....McGee Farm!
