Let's start with a funny.
One Sunday afternoon a couple of weeks ago, Andrew had decided to go with a friend and his brothers to their hunting land and do the "hunting prep stuff" that they do. Whatever that involves. I was looking forward to my afternoon by myself watching a movie and eating candy. This was supposed to happen while Audrey took a "nap". Or played in her bed. Whichever.
After about 30 minutes of her playing loudly and gallivanting like a wild monkey, I decided to go investigate. Before I even opened the door I could smell poop. Great. *Side note: Audrey was going through a phase of not wanting to wear clothes for naptime. I made her wear a shirt, but not pants.* I open the door and there she stands - diaperless - with poop EVERYWHERE. On the bed, on the floor, on her hands, on her legs, on her face. EVERYWHERE. Great. She is standing there saying, "Ewww! Ewww! Eww!" Yes, baby, Ew. She says that a lot, and knows exactly what it means! I immediately put her in the bathtub. I get her situated and walk across the hall to her room and start cleaning up the poop. Warning, TMI - it was not gooey and smeary, thankfully?, it was little balls everywhere. So I'm cleaning, wiping, scrubbing, sanitizing while Audrey plays in her 3 inches of water. Just so no one is thinking she is in there by herself about to drown - it was only a few inches deep. And I was just a hop and a skip away from her. Ok, so I clean up the room and head back to clean up the child. I clean her up and we go back in her room to put on clothes. She started saying, "Ew, ew!" again. I told her that I cleaned it all up. Then she walked over to the end of her bed pointing and saying, "Ew, ew!". I had missed a whole pile of poop. At least we found it, haha.
So much for my nice alone time watching my movie and eating candy. Ha.
Audrey is really into scaring people right now. She likes to sneak up on you and say, "Raaawwrrr!" She does her hands and everything. It is so funny! The video below shows her doing it. (Not sure why the ironing board is on my bed???)
Audrey has also learned the word, "Ow!" very well too. As in, "ouch". I was buckling her in her carseat the other day, and she pointed to my face and said, "Ow!". She was pointing to my zit. My reply was, "Thank you, sweetie. Yes, Mommy has a boo-boo." Nothing like your two-year-old noticing your pimple. Great.
A week ago yesterday, we had a little scare. I was cleaning out my closet and Audrey wanted to play with a purse that I never use. I gave it to her and I even had the thought, "I don't think I have ever used that purse." About ten minutes later, I walked into the living room where she was. There were Tylenol pills all over the floor surrounding her. They were in that purse in a little ziploc bag. I investigated, and it didn't appear that she had eaten any. But I wasn't confident. I decided to call Poison Control. I thought maybe there was something she could just eat or drink at home. Nothing to it, no big deal. Ha, not the case! The lady on the phone sounded very concerned and advised that I take her to the ER if I was not positive if she had ingested any or not. Great. I called my mom, and she went with me. This was also the day it was a monsoon outside. I don't know if any of you saw the footage on the news of Muscle Shoals. Cars were under water and Woodward Ave was flooded. (Muscles Shoals is across the river from us. About 15 minutes away.) So needless to say, it was pouring rain. But that was ok, on we went to the ER. When we got to the ER, I told them I had called Poison Control and that was all I had to say. They lady smiled and said, "Ohhh she's the child with Tylenol." Ha, yes that's us! So they took her vitals and weight. Everything looked good. It didn't take long and we were back in a room. They drew blood from her to see her Tylenol levels. Bless her little heart, that was hard to watch! We waited and waited. Everything looked ok, but Poison Control made them keep us until it had been 4 hours since the time of the incident. AND, at the 4 hour mark, we had to do blood again. Tylenol spikes in the blood at 4 hours. So, poor little Audrey had to go through that awful process again. She cried and cried, screamed and cried. Thankfully, those test results also came back clear and we were good to go home. What a day! Five hours at the ER with an impatient, restless two-year-old is not my idea of fun. At least we had a tv in our room so that helped a little.
And 24 hours later...
Audrey is sick! Great. Probably got it from the ER. She was up most of Tuesday night/Wednesday early morning. I tried sleeping in her room, rocking her, scratching her arms. Nothing seemed to help, but she did sleep a little. When she woke up (at a decent time of the morning), I got her up and she was so fussy. Not long after, she threw up. Then she had diarrhea. Then she threw up again that afternoon. I could barely get her to eat or drink. I figured we had the stomach virus. Great. Thursday I took her to the doctor. We had to see the nurse practitioner because her pediatrician was so booked. She checked ears, throat, pressed on her belly, etc. Her throat wasn't red, so they didn't do a strep test. She told us it was the stomach virus and she would be well in a day or two. Also, she had been sleeping with me Wednesday and Thursday night. Wednesday night, she had to be sleeping on my chest or she was not happy. We booted Andrew to the guest room, which he gladly agreed to since he wanted to be quarantined from the stomach virus. Friday she seemed better, but not 100%. Since she did seem better, I put her to bed in her room and she slept great. Saturday however....Saturday didn't go as well. She woke up happy, but by lunch she was very irritable. Even after her nap - she actually naps when she is sick - she was just as irritable. If I put her down, she would scream and cry. She felt terrible. By Saturday night, she was moaning in pain and so restless. I thought she had a bellyache by the way she was acting. And she also threw up Saturday night. So she slept with me again, moaning and all. Poor thing, Saturday night was the hardest. I hate feeling so helpless. This whole time I had been giving her Zofran when I felt she needed it, but it didn't seem to be helping. Sunday morning I decided to take her back to the doctor. The doctor did a strep test this time and it turns out she actually had strep! She never had the stomach virus. After taking her antibiotic and some Advil, she felt much better! She is like a whole new kid. Yay!
We are loving this fall weather!!!! This evening after dinner, Audrey and I played outside. We colored with sidewalk chalk and went down her little slide.
Yall, please ignore my gross attire and lack of makeup. Teehee.
Night night, my sweet little sleepy head! Mom-mom loves you so much!
Girl you have had one heck of a month. I had no idea you had been going through all that. Glad Miss Audrey is doing better. Look forward to seeing you next week....hopefully :)
