Although it has only been a month since Christmas, it feels like it was ages ago. Maybe it's because I am trying to forget the miserable parts, ha.
Audrey had a cold that I was trying to "cure" with Benadryll and vitamins. I was trying to avoid antibiotics, especially since she did not have fever. She has been on so, so many antibiotics in her short little lifetime. Now that she is older, I don't run to the doctor with every runny nose. ;) Although most of the time, runny noses tend to turn into ear infections. Lesson learned this go-around.
Let me also add that the Sunday before Christmas I woke up with the stomach virus. (My second time in six weeks, yuck.) I also felt some cold symptoms too, but wasn't sure if I was also getting Audrey's cold. By the next day, I had a terrible cough. Oh, and fever that also came Sunday and briefly left Monday but came back that evening. Onto my story..
Christmas Eve afternoon we went to Andrew's parents' to open our gifts. We had dinner, opened gifts, and made it home in time to put Audrey down for her bed time. However, she never really would fall asleep. Every thirty minutes or so, we would have to go back in her room and calm her down. I could tell she didn't feel good. I went on to bed after soothing her and told Andrew if she cried again, to bring her in bed with me. Since I was sick, he decided to quarantine himself to the guest bedroom. :)
It wasn't long, and Audrey was in bed with me. She tossed and turned. Then she started moaning. I couldn't get her comfortable. I decided she had a sore throat like me and needed some advil. When I took her into the kitchen, I sat her on the counter and she started shaking uncontrollably. Her eyes would not focus and her face was even kind of puffy. SCARED. ME. TO. DEATH. I knew she wasn't having a seizure, but I thought she was on her way into one. I could also tell she didn't have a fever, so I thought maybe her temperature was too low. I have heard of that before. I took her temp, it was normal. But she still had the shakes. She was not herself. We were terrified. We were out the door within a couple of minutes to the ER. Bless it, she went in her Christmas pjs and all. :)
On our way over there she had quit shaking and fallen asleep. By this point, it is around 11pm. We didn't have to wait very long in the waiting room before they took us back. All her vitals were normal. She seemed ok by this point. We had to wait about two hours in the room. Audrey and I laid down together on the hospital bed and went to sleep while poor Andrew sat in the hard, plastic chair.
We finally saw the doctor and told him the story. He checked her over and said she had a right ear infection. He said what happened was she was breaking fever when she started shaking. Apparently, the shaking was normal. Good! What a relief. He gave her some medicine, wrote a prescription for an antibiotic (ha), and we went home. We changed Audrey's pjs since she had been at the ER. I was so sad she didn't get to wake up in her Christmas pjs. So, this explains the purple sweatsuit and why she looks like Barney the dinosaur on Christmas Day. hehe. We were all back in bed by 2:30 and Audrey did not wake up until 9am. Yay!
Christmas morning....
Sleepy girl :)
She got a new chair with her name on it. :)
I look TERRIBLE. Yes, that is me with bronchitis, fever, and the effects of our midnight trip to the ER. ha.
Audrey woke up feeling much better and had a blast opening her gifts.
"Baby! Baby!" It was a baby doll Christmas for sure. She got all kinds of baby things.
Putting her lipstick on Daddy. :)
We saved her ER bracelet and turned it into an ornament. ;)
Daddy putting together Audrey's new baby stroller. That set also came with a high chair, play pen, diaper bag, monitors, potty seat, and some other little things. She absolutely loves it!
Those are all the pictures I took on Christmas day. We also went to Andrew's parents' again and then went to my grandmother's to see all of my family that night. Any time in between I was in bed. I cried because I felt like I missed Audrey's Christmas. I guess she didn't know the difference. Oh well, I am thankful for a great Christmas overall. We are so blessed beyond words and that is what is most important.
We had other Christmas gatherings as well that happened throughout December. I have a ba-jillion pictures so I might post some later. Bethany and TJ came in to town December 13-16 for Celia's UNA graduation. We did Christmas with them that weekend. I will post some pics with B and TJ since we don't see them often.
Audrey did not want to be held. :)
Oh, it was so good to see them. I miss them terribly! DC is just too far away....(ahem, you can move closer any time, B!!)
More posts to come soon! I am behind on my blogging.
Love you, punkin. :)
